More about the singer Leehom

Born on May 17, 1976, Leehom Wang (Alexander) is an ABC (American Born Chinese), speaking and singing in American-accented Mandarin. His parents migrated to New York from Taiwan. Leehom has been composing songs since he was a kid growing up in New York, when he used to write songs as birthday gifts. In fact, the naughty boy next door did his first performance at the age of 9.

Since elementary school, he has won awards in everything from math to essay competitions. He was ranked second in the American High School Thesis Competition, held by Cornell University in 1993, and was accepted as a member of Golden Key National Honor Society with his painting titled "Eagle". Having passed the violin exam of Eastman Music School, he entered Williams College in New York majoring in music and did his Master's at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music. Besides working on his degree, he spent a lot of time at Williams singing with a band to show his combination of passion for music and talent with people. His independent vocal coach, Dr William Riley, also coached Celine Dion and Michael Bolton.

Despite his formal music training, he was keen to enter the pop scene and hopes to be a good role model for Chinese youths around the world. Young, handsome, and sociable, he has captured the hearts of million by singing, dancing, acting, composing songs, and working as a producer of many major records. He has already swept music fans in Japan and Chinese mainland off their feet and surprised cinema lovers with his acting skills.

He turned the song "Descendants of the Dragon" into a personal mantra, asserting his Chinese identity while growing up in a Western society. He sang the song "I'm lovin' it" to offer a refreshing song for McDonald's, a global fast food chain. And his song "The Only One" is often on my play list.

In recent years he has been with a new explosive music style that successfully blends Chinese with Western music rhythms. The all-round talent got the inspiration to his special hip hop mix of stylish R&B with Peking opera elements for his best-selling album "Shangri-la" when he watched the silver screen drama "Farewell My Concubine". The tradition of the Chinese opera could not only be heard via his specific vocal treatment and compositions, but also through the adapted outfit that adds even more eastern flavor to his highly anticipated new tunes! Enjoy his trademark smash "Inner Sun & Moon".

In his latest album, "Heroes of Earth", he amazingly mixes R&B and Pop elements with traditional Chinese instruments and sounds for a sweet trip down groove lane. "Mistake in the Flower Field" shows his amazing vocal range and soulful voice over a slow backtrack mixed with pretty and haunting traditional Chinese opera, "Brothers" blends funk and rap for a nice bob-your-head track. He even has ballads to slow it down with "Kiss Goodbye", "Big City, Small Love", and "The First Morning" in which he produces a somewhat generic CPOP sound, but still shines. "Beside Plum Blossoms" has a simple rap and light synthetic rap beat that is enjoyable, but easily tiresome. Still, he does a remarkable job and has made fans interested in more of his works.

Recently, he took the central stage at the Taipei Arena to spread his new fusion style of East and West, labeled as "chinked-out" music. To make sure the concerts were culturally blended, he sang a long list of covers from bands that included England's Westlife and Taiwan's Mayday. To his gay and female fans' delight, the maturing star has broken through the cocoon of a gentle polite young man, and changed into a sweating wild stud that gave an excellent view of his muscles and dirty danced with girls on the stage.

Well, his first love came by when he was 13 and he was voted the No.1 sexual fantasy of Taiwanese girls. However, he would rather people focus on his singing than his looks.

Frankly, this mv is a mix of hippop and Chinese opera, but the director put more chinese visual elements in, that makes it popular in China.
