China has inched closer toward its ambitious goal of building infrastructure on the moon, as the first set of experimental "lunar soil bricks" returned to Earth after a year-long exposure to the harsh environment of space.
The bricks, part of a pioneering experiment aboard China's space station, arrived last week on the Shenzhou XXI spacecraft. Experts confirmed that the sample unit was in good condition following initial inspections.

The three astronauts of China's Shenzhou-20 mission landed safely on Earth aboard the Shenzhou-21 spacecraft on Friday, marking the first successful implementation of an alternative return procedure in the country's space station program history.
The alternative plan was adopted after the original return vessel, the Shenzhou-20 spacecraft, experienced a suspected impact from space debris. The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) confirmed the return mission was a complete success.

China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) market continued its strong momentum this year, with data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Tuesday showing that NEV production and sales maintained robust growth from January to October. NEV sales in October surpassed 50 percent of all new car sales for the first time, a milestone in the sector's rapid expansion, China Media Group (CMG) reported.
Chinese carmakers produced 27.69 million vehicles and sold 27.68 million between January and October, both up more than 10 percent year-on-year. NEV output reached 13.02 million units, rising 33.1 percent, and sales hit 12.94 million, up 32.7 percent.

China has added the United States, Mexico and Canada to a list of countries and regions requiring special licenses to import specific precursor chemicals, as it made adjustments to its management catalog of narcotics-related chemical compounds.
The new rule, effective immediately, was jointly issued on Monday by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Emergency Management, the General Administration of Customs and the National Medical Products Administration.

"Like other major markets, China is crucial to ASML's global growth and long-term development," Shen Bo, executive vice-president of ASML and president of ASML China, said in an interview with China Daily. "According to our recent third-quarter finance results, we project that China will account for over 25 percent of ASML's total sales in 2025."
