The Huawei Watch broke cover and it looks to strike a nice balance of both high quality industrial design, classic high-end time piece styling and cutting-edge wearable technology, powered Android wear.
The Huawei watch takes almost a completely traditional watch face design, with a little less bezel than LG’s recently unveiled G Watch Urbane, combines it with high grade materials and it looks fantastic. The watch has a more modern style face than the LG offering, with a slightly more premium look to it, but it doesn’t lean over quite as far as the Moto 360 to appeal to the geek set wearables crowd. Huawei seems to be concerned with making a quality time piece first and then building technology around it, and I applaud them for that. A high tech wearable device that looks great and offers additional, valuable functionality beyond traditional devices, is a win-win. Otherwise, it’s a gadget that excuses need to be made for.
The Huawei Watch sports stainless steel, black and gold finished variants with a number of different metal and leather band options to choose from. Word is the watch will also be strapped with sapphire glass across its face, which should make for a durable, protective finish. Other than the traditional accelerometer sensors, reportedly a heart rate monitor will be on board as well.
There’s even a quick tease up on the Huawei Device Youtube channel as well…
With smart tracking features, Google Now and instant notifications on screen, this could be the Android Wear watch to, watch. Sorry, couldn’t resist that one. We’ll learn more in the coming days I’m sure, as wearables warm up in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress this coming week.
