Beijing plans to establish an environmental police force by the end of March, amid tightened controls on air pollution, the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said after the capital and other northern cities are engulfed by a new bout of smog.
The smog descended on Sunday across northern and central regions, including Beijing and Tianjin as well as the provinces of Hebei, Shandong and Henan, with the pollution due to worsen, reaching hazardous levels on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Li Jianjun, director of the environmental pre-warning department at China National Environmental Monitoring Center.

According to a latest survey, this 21st century tech generation cares more about traditional values such as family and friendship.
A report by China Youth and Children Research Center released on Wednesday provides insight into the traits of the generation born after 2000 and also compares them with their predecessor - the so-called post-90s generation.
The results are based on surveys conducted in 10 provinces and municipalities mainly in 2005 and 2015 and partly in 1999 and 2010. The 2015 study was conducted among 162 primary and secondary schools in rural and urban areas of Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Shandong, Liaoning, Henan, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan and Shaanxi, with 9,360 valid responses.

China's Vice Minister for Public Security Meng Hongwei was elected here on Thursday as President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
He is the first Chinese official to take the post.
Meng Hongwei took over the position from his predecessor Mireille Ballestrazzi from France after being elected at the closing ceremony of Interpol's 85th General Assembly.
