At least five officials from the Wuxi Tax Bureau have been punished for ‘poor management’ of the Fan Bingbing tax evasion case, according to Xinhua News.

Ding Yuan, the head of the Wuxi Taxation Bureau, along with four other high-ranking taxmen in the city, were amongst those singled out for mismanagement. Punishment for the five officials came in the forms of administrative warnings, admonishing conversations, position removal and imposing demerits.

ther than the high-ranking officials, the State Administration of Taxation also instructed that taxmen responsible for the case who are suspected of ‘poor management’ will also be ‘held accountable,’ although no details regarding their punishment have been given.

Fan Bingbing, previously one of the most popular celebrities in China, has seen a dramatic downfall since news of her tax evasion practices came to light. 

In the aftermath of that revelation, The State Administration of Taxation has announced plansto tighten regulations on the film and television industry in China. From January until the end of July next year, China will launch a nation-wide campaign to further clamp down on tax evasion and establish a sounder regulation system for taxation in the industry.

Also, beginning on October 10, various levels of taxation authorities around the country will carry out investigations into tax records of film and television workers and companies submitted since 2016. People who pay their back-taxes by the end of December this year will reportedly face no punishment or fines.
