Any new Canadians to Beijing??! I need some suggestion. I want to work in Beijing, but the agent said I need to provide Canada Criminal Background Check before they initiate the process. I don't know the best way to go about getting a criminal background check sent to China from the Canadian police. The gov't website makes it seem thorough and expensive. Do I have to get fingerprints done at the forensic center in Haidian? Please help!!!!!!!

Hi, I myself just had to do this a couple months back for my Z visa, so I am 100% sure of what you need to do.
First thing you will need is to go to the Canadian embassy near Dongzhimen.
2nd, bring your passport as well as a secondary piece of ID that has your signature on it.
3rd, You will also need to type out a letter giving permission for someone you trust in Canada to go into the police station for you to conduct the criminal check.

Basically,

I___________give permission for ________to conduct a criminal record check on my behalf. with the date and your signature.
The embassy will stamp this letter, as well as copy your passport and secondary id and stamp it as well. I forget the cost, but i think it was around 250-300rmb per page, so roughly 500-600rmb. Once you have these 2 documents stamped, contact dhl, fedex, ems- whichever you prefer and mail the original copies to Canada. They can then have the criminal check done, and mail back the originals. shipping back to Canada cost me 300 by dhl. the cost of the criminal check is around $90 CAD.

This is a very time consuming and fairly expensive process, but I assure you, there is no other way to have it done. I know because I searched for wuite some time looking for an alternative way.

All in you are looking at about a week of time and about $250CAD in total.

Hope this helps.

Life can never be harder!
