At least five officials from the Wuxi Tax Bureau have been punished for ‘poor management’ of the Fan Bingbing tax evasion case, according to Xinhua News.
Ding Yuan, the head of the Wuxi Taxation Bureau, along with four other high-ranking taxmen in the city, were amongst those singled out for mismanagement. Punishment for the five officials came in the forms of administrative warnings, admonishing conversations, position removal and imposing demerits.

China has 60% of world's high-speed railway

China has 25,000 km of high-speed railway, accounting for over 60 percent of the world's total, official data showed.
By the end of 2017, China had built and put into service 127,000 km of railway, up 150 percent from 1978 when the country started its reform and opening-up, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign is now targeting the glamour icons of the entertainment industry. On Wednesday, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported that megastar Fan Bingbing, whose earnings are only second to that of Jackie Chan, will have to cough out $129 million in unpaid taxes and fines.
Ms. Fan, 37, has a famous national and international profile. She stars in the well-known X-man and Iron-Man film franchises. Her next film, Air Strike, known in China as Unbreakable Spirit, is set for an international debut this year. It is widely reported that the superstar has had tie-ups with top global brands, including Mont Blanc, the German luxury accessories heavyweight, Louis Vuitton of France, whose catwalk she has graced, as well as De Beers, the British diamond ace.
China bamboo a rising star in paper-making industry

The bamboo that grows in Southwest China's Sichuan province is famous for being pandas' favorite food, but humans have increasingly turned to the plant for toilet paper and paper towels.
Last year, Sichuan produced 1.1 million tons of household paper from bamboo, equivalent to about one-tenth of China's total paper production for household purposes, according to the Sichuan Paper Association.

ZTE reports revenue over 100b yuan in 2017

Chinese telecommunications company ZTE reported full-year operating revenue of 108.8 billion yuan ($17.2 billion) last year, according to the company's annual report released Thursday.
It marked a yearly increase of 7.5 percent, the report said.
